Service Description
(Gift Certificate also available) One of the amazing qualities of Vegetable Tanned Leather is that it can be soaked and moulded into a shape that it’ll retain once its dried out. On this Leather Wet Moulding Course, split over 2 days (approx 3 hours each day), I'll take you through the start to finish process so you’ll be working the leather into the moulded shape around the wooden former and top clamp, then saddle stitching it into a pouch with a snap or swing clasp closure as per the photos at the bottom of the page. Additionally you'll also be able to make a pair of Leather Valet/Coin trays from a selection of various leathers. You can cut the Valet/Coin trays as both the same size or different sizes. Here’s what’s covered on each session; Day 1: Learn about Vegetable and Chrome tanned leathers and the tools you’ll be using. Practise cutting leathers cutting out the front and back panel. Soaking the Leather and working around the base mould and clamping top frame. Preparing the back panel for the next session. Cutting the Pair of Valet/Coin Trays and attaching the heavy duty snap closures for them. Please note that the top mould leather piece needs 24 hours to dry out and set in it's new shape. Day 2: Removing mould and trimming front panel Adding hardware, gluing panels together, chisel punching stitching holes. Saddle stitching and lots of trimming, sanding and burnishing to complete the final shape. The pouch measures approx 14 cms wide and 11 cms high with an internal width of just over 11cms. Lots of people dabble with making leather goods but not many go this stage further with wet moulding, so this is a great little introduction to making a leather pouch (and Valet/Coin Trays) and understanding the step-by-step process with a lot more time spent on trimming and shaping the final outline shape. And once you've made your first wet moulded piece it'll quite likely be the first of many more... wet moulding is addictive! This Course is aimed at anyone wanting to try out working with leather, with no previous experience needed. This course will run once booked and will only have either a minimum of one to a maximum of two people attending. All leathers and tools are also provided. Please also contact for upcoming midweek dates. You’ll also receive an info pack about leathers, tools and hardware suppliers, and have your very own wet moulded leather pouch and Valet/Coin Trays to take home. Thanks, Richard Williamson
