Personally selected timber from a privately managed Woodlands in The Chilterns.
All of our Wood Burnishing Hand Tools are as unique as the Vegetable Tanned Leathers you work with and as it’s the tool any (Vegtan) leatherworker uses every time, we wanted to make them as individual and unique as possible by choosing a variety of interesting harder wood species that are also suitable for the purpose.
In selecting each wood species we’re looking for a wood that has character and/or displays an interesting grain and colour, the rarer the wood the rarer your Burnishing Tool is. This is really important to us and the whole reason for developing our range of Wood Burnishing Tools in a market where you’ll find most sellers don’t even identify which wood species they’ve used and have a rough grain.
Our selected woods are air dried and sourced as local as possible and are all individually hand turned on a lathe by our expert North London woodturner with five reducing in size slots to cover a range of leather thicknesses.
Our woodturner spends time properly finishing each Burnisher tool so the grooves are finished to a super smooth finish and we can report, having been testing them for the previous 6 months, that not only do they look and feel great in the hand, but they also work straight out of the box and being larger than standard and with that smooth finish, really helps with burnishing time and that final burnish.
We’re always interested in making unique products so if you have a wood species in mind you don’t see here or require larger numbers, please do get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org
